For the 1st Advent, Mary and Joseph are brought out with their little donkey and their journey can begin. From this day on, the children can let the figures wander a little further every day. Upstairs, downstairs, along the window sills, under the sofa, over the cupboard wall...the whole long 24 days.
At the same time, you can use the Sundays of Advent to collect treasures on a family walk. Moss, small twigs, roots, little stones...and then gradually incorporate them into the already prepared nativity scene.
On 24 December, Christmas Eve, the time has come. The hikers finally reach the prepared cot. Mary is exhausted, happy and grateful for a warm place with the ox in the stable.
And while your children wait for the presents, you (the parents), exchange the walking Mary for the kneeling Mary, and the Christ Child is placed in the manger.
In addition, you can also read aloud from the beautiful booklet "Mary's Little Donkey" or, even more delicately, have the older children read aloud. In it, there is a little story for each day that accompanies the three on their journey.
And after Christmas, before the cot is taken down, the three of them can set off again (again, replaced overnight by you). You can tie the baby Jesus around Mary with a small scrap of fabric, and off he goes on his journey.
